Maximilian Meisse is an established German photographer who was born in 1969 Kassel. He lives and works in Berlin. I am studying Meisse's Venetian Settings photography book. The book focuses on the structure and architecture of buildings in Venice. There are horizontal and vertical photographs in different sizes. There are no people in the photographs. All of his photographs are in color and have a deep depth of field. Maximilian Meisse will take photographs during the day and night. At night, he will photograph one source of light usually coming from a window. In many of the photographs the water is glossy, smooth, and calm and the sky does not have any clouds or detail. His photographs encompass many vertical lines from edges of buildings, windows, or columns.
Marieken Verheyen is a Dutch photographer. I am studying Verheyen's Elsewhere photography book. The book focuses on photographs of window's views taken from inside homes. The photographs take up one whole page or both pages of the book with no border. Verheyen photographed during the day. The photographs make the view bright and the inside of the house dark. Each photograph has a different view outside whether that be urban, surburb, or rural. Not every window photograph is taken on a straight forward angle but it usually in the middle of the photograph as the subject. The dark interior of the house creates a border for the photographs.
Mary Ellen Mark is a successful and famous American photographer. She was born in 1940 in Pennsylvania and died in 2015 in New York. I am studying Mark's American Odyssey photography book. The book focuses on people in America from the late 60's to the early 90's. All the photographs are black and white, have a shallow depth of field, and a small thin black border around them. The people in the photographs are either living a normal day or at a special event. The people are across a wide age range from young children to senior citizens. The subject(s) are either center, slightly off-center, or on the edge. The subjects were either close to the camera or far enough away to see their whole being. Each photograph tells a story about the subjects in one form or another. Either that be the home they live in, how they express themselves, or the people who are with them that they care about. Many of the expressions of the subjects are dull and distant. "In my work, I am guided by what moves and surprises me." Photography excited her and she loved that photography gave her contact with many people.
